The Dubai Shipping Agents Association (DSAA) joined international shipping industry representatives at the FONASBA Annual Meeting in Tokyo, contributing Dubai’s perspective to discussions on maritime disruption, professional standards and the future of ship agency.

Represented by Chairman Mr. Salah Sharaf and General Manager Ghaya Almansoori, DSAA participated in the working sessions held from 12–14 October 2026, hosted by the Japan Association of Foreign-Trade Ship Agencies (JAFSA).

01  —  THE PANEL

Contributing to the maritime corridors discussion

Mr. Salah Sharaf participated in the opening panel, Maritime Corridors: Insights from Our Members, alongside representatives bringing perspectives from different shipping markets.

His contribution addressed the practical challenges of maintaining cargo movements during disruption, including the use of alternative gateways, additional inland transport and coordination across stakeholders.

He emphasised the importance of reliability and the agent’s role in providing timely local knowledge, keeping principals informed and helping them assess workable alternatives. The discussion also highlighted the need for industry cooperation in responding to challenges that extend across borders.

02  —  THE PROFESSION

Shaping the conversation on the future of agency

Throughout the programme, discussions examined the expanding responsibilities of ship agents, closer coordination between shipping and logistics, and the skills needed as technology and compliance expectations evolve.

Professional standards and education were central themes, alongside the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for women and young professionals to contribute to the industry.
