DSAA Industry Roundtable Brings Maritime Leaders Together to Discuss Resilience and the Road Ahead

Under the theme "Beyond Adaptation: Navigating Current Maritime Pressures & What Comes Next," senior leaders from the carrier, port and logistics sectors came together for DSAA's inaugural closed-door industry roundtable to explore how the maritime sector can move beyond reacting to disruption and towards building long-term resilience.

On the 8th of July, the Dubai Shipping Agents Association (DSAA) recently convened senior leaders from across the maritime ecosystem for its inaugural Industry Roundtable under the Legal, Advocacy & Policy Committee, bringing together perspectives from the carrier, port and logistics sectors to explore the evolving realities shaping regional and global trade.

Held under the theme “Beyond Adaptation: Navigating Current Maritime Pressures & What Comes Next,” the closed-door session was designed to provide a neutral platform for constructive industry dialogue, enabling participants to exchange perspectives, identify shared challenges and discuss how collaboration can continue to strengthen supply chain resilience.

How does the maritime industry move beyond simply adapting to disruption — and towards building long-term resilience?

The roundtable featured perspectives from Capt. Swaminathan Rajagopalan, General Manager, CMA CGM UAE; Mr. Khalid Al Ali, Vice President – Commercial, DP World GCC; and Mr. Laurence Langdon, General Manager, Modern Freight Company. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Madhu Madathil, Chairman of the DSAA Legal, Advocacy & Policy Committee.

Rather than responding independently, participants emphasised the growing importance of collaboration in maintaining the uninterrupted movement of trade.

Participants also reflected on the UAE's approach to maintaining supply chain continuity throughout recent regional developments. The discussion recognized the importance of close coordination between industry stakeholders, service providers and relevant authorities in supporting the continued movement of essential trade and strengthening the resilience of Dubai's maritime ecosystem.

Beyond operational considerations, the session also examined the commercial realities facing the sector. Topics including equipment availability, container positioning, operational continuity and changing customer expectations highlighted the need for continued flexibility, proactive planning and industry-wide cooperation as businesses navigate an evolving operating environment.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, the overall sentiment throughout the discussion was one of cautious optimism. Participants agreed that the industry's ability to innovate, collaborate and respond collectively has strengthened significantly, providing confidence in its continued ability to navigate future uncertainty.
